Garbage Collection/ Curbside Recycling Services/ Debris Boxes/ Green Waste

In 2007 Redwood Empire Disposal, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Ratto Group of Companies, purchased the Empire Waste Management solid waste collection contracts in Sonoma and Marin Counties.  The Franchise Agreement for Solid Waste, Recycling and Green Waste Services, originally entered into between BCPUD and USA Waste Management, was assigned by USA Waste of California, Inc. to Redwood Empire Disposal, Inc. and approved by BCPUD at their regularly scheduled Board of Directors meeting on July 18, 2007.

General Information for Garbage Pick-Up in Bolinas:
  • Residential trash and recycling collection is on Thursdays, commercial collection on Wednesdays.  Collection is a day later when the following holidays occur; July 4, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's.

  • The current rate for a 32-gallon can is $13.75 per month, and $10.30 per month for a 20-gallon can. Weekly curbside recyclables collection is included at no extra charge. Please use the following guidelines for recycleables: Place all of your recyclables together into your recycling container. Include all paper, clean food & beverage glass, metal cans & plastic containers. Cardboard may be broken down if needed to fit in recycle container. Do not force materials into recycling container. It may not empty completely. No need to separate materials. Please be sure all containers are emptied of food and liquid prior to recycling.

  • A weekly curbside green waste pickup program is included at no extra charge.  The yardwaste that is collected in Bolinas is dropped off at the Bolinas-Stinson Resource Recovery Center and turned into compost and mulch, which can be purchased at the Resource Recovery site.  If you are not a Redwood Empire Disposal customer, or you have larger amounts of green waste (yard and tree trimmings) than can be disposed of in the 96 gallon green waste container provided as part of your basic subscription, you can drop off your clean yard waste at the Resource Recovery site at 18 Olema-Bolinas Road.
